Learn More About How To Find The Best Weight Management Program For You

Are you ready to lose weight? If the answer is “YES”, you may be interested in joining a weight management program. When it comes to joining a weight loss program, you will find that you have a number of options. If this is your first time joining such programs, you may be unsure as to what you should be looking for. If that is the case, you will want to continue reading on.
One of the best ways to go about finding the perfect weight management program for yourself is to ask yourself a number of important questions. One of the first questions that you should ask is: “How much time do I have to devote to meetings?” If you were to join a local weight management program, you would most likely be required to attend weekly meetings. You may not have the time to do so. In that case, you should look into joining an online program, since they are specifically designed for those with busy schedules.
Another question that you will want to ask yourself, when looking to find the perfect weight management program is concerning your willpower. With an online program, you will be given more freedom, since you do not have to physically report to meetings and answer to group leaders. While this freedom is nice, it has allowed many hopeful individuals to go off track. If you do not think that you can stick with your weight goals and instructions, it may be better to join a local program.
Another one of the many questions that you will want to ask yourself, when looking for a weight management program to join, is how much money you have to spend. While it is possible to find free “lose weight” programs, both locally or online, it is actually quite rare. In your search for the right weight program, you will find that they have a wide range of total costs. Commonly, you will find that online programs are much less expensive than those operated locally. If you are on a tight budget, the cost of each weight loss program that you come across will play a large role in your decision.
You should also ask yourself just how embarrassed with your current weight or your physical appearance you currently are. Although you should have nothing to be ashamed of, you may still feel that way. If that is the case, you may be hesitant to attend local weight loss meetings. Of course, you need to remember that everyone else in your meetings is likely feeling the same way; but you don’t have to put yourself in an awkward situation. If you are concerned with your appearance or what others may think of you, you may want to look into joining an online program instead.
The above mentioned questions are just a few of the many that you should ask yourself if you are interested in joining a weight loss program. While there are a number of benefits to joining a locally operated weight loss program, as well as an online weight loss program, you need to make the decision that is best for you and your own needs.

Free Guide to Are Weight Loss Medications Right For The Average Person
Posted by SportFanatic on
December 28, 2008
There are a number of new Weight Loss Medications available on the market today. However, these Medications are not intended for the average person who has an extra 10 pounds to lose before their wedding. Prescription Diet Medications are designed for people who are significantly obese or have weight-related medical problems that must be corrected quickly to prevent further complications. Here is a basic guide to determining if weight loss drugs may be right for you. Of course, you must always consult your doctor for a thorough evaluation and prescription.
There are certain guidelines concerning who may be prescribed Diet Medications. A patient must have a body mass index that is over 30, unless they have other obesity-related health conditions such as heart problems, diabetes, or high blood pressure. These severe medical conditions lower the body mass index requirement to 27. Whether or not a medical condition is obesity-related and grounds for prescribing medication can depend on the doctor, so get a second opinion if you disagree with your doctor’s assessment. These health problems can become severe if left unchecked and prescription weight loss Medications may be the answer you have been looking for.
The most common Diet Medications work by suppressing the appetite. These types of diet aids have been around for decades, with amphetamines and Dexedrine being used even back in the 1950s. A new type of appetite suppressant drugs use a slightly different mechanism to achieve the same result, reducing their appeal for abuse. For example, the popular drug Meridia inhibits the release of a certain type of brain chemical that is responsible for signaling hunger. This way, the patient never even gets hungry, so there is no feeling of depriving themselves of something they want. Unfortunately, Meridia is known to increase blood pressure and heart rate, making it unsafe for many people with cardiovascular issues.
Besides the Diet Medications that suppress appetite, there is another class of drugs designed to interfere with the body’s ability to absorb fat from food. Xenical was the first of these lipase inhibitor Medications to be approved, hitting the market in 1999. These drugs work by inhibiting the body’s production of lipase, which is a necessary part of the fat absoprtion process. Without this enzyme, fat molecules cannot be broken down and will pass harmlessly through the digestive system. The side effects of Xenical show the drawback to letting fat leave the body in its unprocessed state, with cramps, flatulence, diarrhea, and anal leakage being the most common.
Testing is always being performed on new drugs for the commercial markets, so it is only a matter of time before there are better options for people wishing to lose weight. Some developmental medicines have received short-term FDA approval, but they have shown too many side effects to be approved for mainstream use at this time. With some more refining by the pharmaceutical companies’ research and development departments, they should be available as part of the next wave of prescription Diet Medications.

Best Guide to Strange Statement – All Living Things Are On A Diet
Posted by SportFanatic on
December 25, 2008
From a strictly nutritional stand point, a diet is simply “the sum of food consumed by a person or other organism.”
No sacrifice stated or implied.
Every organism alive is on a DIET…has been since it’s life began…and will be till it’s life ends.
A human new-born thrives on a diet of milk alone–natural or “formulated”. Soon enough that diet expands to include strained thises and thats; and before long the transition to solid food. Somehow these youngsters know when they are full and they turn instantly to some other diversion.
Never bored, and living in a relatively stress free world, they simply eat to live rather than “living to eat”.
Living to eat comes later, and is a learned rather than instinctual response to hunger.
Exposure to the all pervasive world of advertising comes along at just about the same time as the transition to solid food. Now instead of being satisfied by the healthful and nutritious offerings from a loving parent, they are tempted and re-tempted by a constant barrage of far from healthy, so-called, food.
Prove it to yourself. Watch an hour or so of kid’s special programming and see for yourself. A few dozen empty calorie messages later, you will probably find yourself very “hungry”; and it will be a totally misguided hunger that has nothing to do with “eating to live”.
And thus begins the “eating in response to” experience. Some of us eat “in response” to boredom; for many it is stress; for some it comes with frustration. For a lot of us it is simply a response to suggestion–TV, and radio, magazine ads, billboard blasts,–you name it. It often seems that the world is conspiring to cause unhealthy diets.
Just how effective that “conspiracy” can be is borne out by the fact that over half of the world’s population is overweight. Over HALF–and increasing (poor pun intended) every year. And that’s in the face of natural selection–nature’s way of “thinning the herd”. We who are overweight tend to die sooner–the ultimate “double whammy”. We pay a dear price for these extra pounds; and our kids are practically destined to the same fate.
Since you’ve read this far, it’s safe to assume that you’ve already been around the “dieter’s world/hell” long enough to be familiar with the buzz words: NEW MIRACLE DIET, LOSE WEIGHT FAST, THE LAST DIET YOU WILL EVER NEED, GREEN/BLACK/WHITE TEA DIET, etc.
Just when you think you’ve seen and heard it all, put things in a new perspective. Google returned 29,500,000 results for the word “diets”. That’s TWENTY NINE AND A HALF MILLION.
Can they all be effective? Sure. Because the bottom line for all of them…at least the legal ones…is simple: EAT LESS…EXERCISE MORE. Twenty nine and a half million pages condensed into four words. And you thought this was gonna be tough?
Sure, lots of those millions of pages suggest that you: EAT LESS…EXERCISE MORE and “drink this magic tea” or “eat this magic supplement” or “drink gallons of cabbage soup” or some such.
The question that so many of us fail to ask is: “What happens if I just EAT LESS…EXERCISE MORE and also save a gazillion dollars by not buying any of your magic pills, potions and soup recipes?”
We all know the answer; yet we continue searching for the “miracle” diet, routine, and/or supplement.
At the risk of short circuiting over twenty-nine million other suggestions, it’s time to accept the fact that the only “magic” is in us–programmed there since birth. We simply need to get back in touch.
For the continued purposes of this blog and accompanying web site, we’re going to expand the theme a bit:
EAT…MORE OR LESS AND EXERCISE…MORE OR LESS.
With 125 extra pounds between us, Gayle and I have chosen a realistic and achievable goal.

2 Different Ways To Build Muscle
Posted by SportFanatic on
December 14, 2008
There are two different ways to build muscle.
1-For you to be able to build muscle mass, your diet has to be full of protein and trade bad carbohydrates and fats for good ones. You must really focus in on finding just the right diet for this to occur. If you do not pay attention to your diet, then you will notice that you will not build muscle very fast.
2-Keep your workout time short. I know this does not sound right, but it is. Working out for long periods will only exhaust you and not help matters. Also taking a day off between workouts is a good idea. This gives your muscles and your body time to heal in-between. Your workout plan needs to be a quality workout instead of a quantity workout for you to reap the rewards of muscle building.

The Final Pounds: Don’t Let Your Weight Loss Goals Slip When The End Is In Sight.
Posted by SportFanatic on
December 12, 2008
When you decide to lose weight, the first few pounds is often very easy. That’s good because it’s a great motivator when you see results right away. But as you lose more, the rate of loss, and the speed with which you see visible effects, slows down. It’s hard to keep going when you aren’t seeing the benefits.
But don’t lose heart. It’s natural that initial efforts at a certain level will get you only 80% of the way there. The other 20% is going to come harder. That’s just the way things are. There are techniques that can help you get that last 20% – and, more importantly, keep 100% of the results over the long term.
Sometimes the difficulty in shedding that last 10 or 20 pounds can be loss of willpower. After achieving so much, it can be easy to say ‘that is good enough’. If so, that may be ok. You may validly choose to reevaluate your goals and decide that it truly is good enough.
But beware of long term effects when you are trying to lose the belly fat
Remember that sticking with this goal can give you the stamina to stick with other goals. Don’t get into the habit of being a quitter. It is way too easy to say good enough, and at the end of the day, you are going to discover that achieving one goal makes achieving the others a lot easier.
Also keep in mind that the idea of giving up is something that can bring about problems when it comes to keeping the weight off. If you never get to your original goal, are you going to be happy? When you are constantly working and striving, you will find that keeping your weight down and winning that particular battle can be a difficult one.
Also keep in mind that it is not just in your head. The final stage of losing weight is something that can be troubling. Some bodies have a weight that they will naturally gravitate towards and getting off that plateau can be really difficult.
You may have slacked off of the length of exercises, or it may just require a longer period to get the same results. By analogy, it’s easy to scoop peanut butter out of a full jar, but getting those last bits is harder and takes longer.
If you’ve been doing cardio 30 minutes a day, three days a week, you may need to extend it to four or five days. That’s usually preferable to extending the length of the workout. You can begin to get close to the injury zone if you work yourself too hard during a given workout. But, you can up it to 45 minutes with minimal risk, if you judge that you still have that much more to give.
When cardio seems to have come to a complete dead stop, up the intensity and try interval training. Do not overdo it; getting an injury can push you back even farther when it comes to getting to the goal that you have settlement.
You may have to try some new exercises. Muscles adapt. Trying some new ones works those that may have been getting less than the most strenuous workout while you were achieving that 80%.
Keep at it until you hit your final desired goal, then keep it steady. Long term results require a permanent lifestyle change.
